for that period already contains Ramadan. Furthermore, no one is allowed to fast the Day of Doubt out of fear that it might actually be a day of Ramadan. If he is sure the day belongs to Shaʿbān, he may fast it voluntarily; but when uncertainty remains, fasting is not permitted.
