Chapter: Days on Which Fasting Is Not Permissible

It is unlawful for anyone to fast on ʿĪd al-Fiṭr (the Day of Breaking the Fast), ʿĪd al-Aḍḥā (the Day of Sacrifice), or the Ayyām al-Tashrīq (the Tashrīq Days)—except in the case of a mutamattiʿ (a pilgrim performing tamattuʿ, the combined ʿumrah and ḥajj) who cannot procure a hady (sacrificial animal). Such a pilgrim is required to fast three days during the ḥajj, provided he has not already fasted them before Yawm al-Naḥr (the Day of Slaughter).
