Among them are the following:
“O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, pardon him, and wash him clean of his sins as a garment is washed clean. O Allah, if he was a doer of good, then increase him in goodness; and if he was a wrongdoer, then overlook his faults. O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, raise his rank in the highest company and make good succession for him in his descendants, O Most Merciful of the merciful.”
It is also commendable to say:
“O Allah, he was Your servant who bore witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and You know him best. He has left this world and come to You at the moment of his greatest need for Your mercy. O Allah, You are Independent of him while he is utterly needy before You, so have mercy on him, forgive him, overlook his misdeeds, and by Your grace and mercy grant him security until You raise him to enter Your Garden. O Allah, protect him from the trial of the grave and from the torment of the Fire. O Allah, do not deprive us of the reward that comes through him, and do not test us after him.”
There are many forms of supplication, yet it is disliked to prolong them, for the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, “Whoever leads the people in prayer should keep it brief,” and this applies to every imam.
If several biers are present at the same time, it is permissible to perform one funeral prayer over all of them together. The man is placed closest to the imam, the woman in front of him nearer the qibla, and when men, boys, and women are all present, the men are set nearest to the imam, then the boys, then the women,
