Saʿīd was then the governor of Madinah, and al-Ḥusayn said to him, “Step forward; were it not the Sunnah, I would never have put you ahead.” After the rulers, the right passes to the heirs—first the one most closely related, then the next, and among them the one most qualified, then the next—provided they are
