9- Ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
"When a person is dying the angels attend him. If he was a righteous man they say, ‘Come out, O good soul that used to dwell in a good body. Rejoice in relief and sweet fragrance, and in a Lord who is not wrathful.’ They continue repeating that to it until it departs. Then the soul is carried up to heaven; the gate is opened for it and they are asked, ‘Who is this?’ They reply, ‘So-and-so.’ It is said, ‘Welcome, O good soul!’ and they go on saying that to it until it reaches the heaven wherein is Allah, Exalted be He.” The rest of the report follows.
It was narrated by Aḥmad in his Musnad and by al-Ḥākim in his Mustadrak, and al-Ḥākim said: “It meets the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.”
7- I add: That is exactly as he said, and I have traced the ḥadīth in al-Targhīb, 4/188–189.
10- Ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah as well: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
"The Angel of Death used to appear to people openly. He came to Moses, peace be upon him, and Moses struck him, putting out his eye. The angel ascended to his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, and said, ‘My Lord, You sent me to Moses and he struck me and took out my eye. Had it not been for the honor he enjoys with You, I would have punished him severely.’ Allah said, ‘Return to My servant and tell him: Let him place his hand on the back of an ox; for every hair his hand covers he will have one year of life.’ The angel went back and conveyed what he had been ordered. Moses asked, ‘And after that?’ He replied, ‘Death.’ Moses said, ‘Then let it be now.’ So he touched him with a touch that seized his soul, and Allah restored the Angel of Death’s sight.
In another wording: ‘He struck his eye and gouged it out, so the angel returned saying, “You have sent me to a servant who does not want to die.” Allah restored his eye and said, “Return to My servant and say: If you wish to live, place your hand on the back of an ox …”’ It also contains the words: ‘He said, “My Lord, then now,” and, “My Lord, bring me close to the Holy Land the distance of a stone’s throw.”’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ added, ‘Had I been there I would have shown you his grave by the side of the road beneath the red dune.’ Its authenticity is agreed upon.
