300 – The position adopted by the people of knowledge is that Allah, exalted is He, is upon His Throne above His heavens, while His knowledge encompasses everything. It embraces all that He has created in the highest heavens and all that is in the seven earths, and to Him the deeds of the servants are raised.
If someone were to ask, “What, then, is the meaning of His words: ‘No secret conversation takes place among three but He is their fourth’ (Q 58:7)?” the answer is: it refers to His knowledge, while Allah is upon His Throne and His knowledge surrounds them. This is how the scholars have explained it, and the beginning and end of the verse alike indicate that what is meant is His knowledge while He is upon His Throne. Such is the creed of the Muslims.
