Quickly. I placed the annotations in the footnotes at the bottom of each page, beneath the chart.
I also added several remarks and suggested certain revisions that I regarded as beneficial; Shaykh Nasir accepted them—as is customary with all our publications.
The book was typeset in Beirut, and we sent the proofs to Damascus, where the Shaykh, together with the esteemed brothers in the proofreading department, compared the copies. His Eminence then inserted into his introduction whatever he found advantageous, until the introduction exceeded eighty pages. Owing to unavoidable circumstances the proofs were withheld from us for a long time, until Allah facilitated their printing in 1401 AH/1981 CE.
Today we present to our beloved brothers in faith the second edition, reproduced photographically from the first by the offset method for the most part. After correcting the typographical slips that escaped the Shaykh and the brothers—no book is entirely free of them—and exerting every possible effort, we also reset certain pages and lines.
The larger share of the labor involved in preparing this edition was borne by the brothers in the Beirut proofreading office—may Allah reward them with goodness.
We had hoped to incorporate any additions or corrections Shaykh Nasir might have, but that proved impossible for him. We ask Allah to aid both us and him in what is good and sound, and to grant us all a blessed end.
I beseech Allah, exalted be He, to record for us, for the scholars who preceded us, and for everyone who assisted us, a share in the good we offer to people, which we hope will benefit us and them in this world and the Hereafter. All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
