63 – Abū Muʿammar al-Qaṭīʿī, the ḥāfiẓ (d. 236 AH)

223 – Ibn Abī Ḥātim recorded in his compilation, on the authority of Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyyā ibn ʿĪsā, from Abū Shuʿayb Ṣāliḥ al-Harawī, from Abū Muʿammar Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm, that he said:

“The last word of the Jahmites is: there is no deity in the heaven.”

Abū Muʿammar was among the teachers of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and al-Bukhārī also transmitted from another man who reported from him. He died in 236 AH and was one of the leading Imams of the sunnah. So confident was he of this that he would say, “If my mule could speak, it would declare itself Sunni.”

195 – I say: From his generation are Ṣāliḥ ibn Ziyād al-Muqriʾ al-Raqqī Abū Shuʿayb and Ṣāliḥ ibn Mubashshir al-Ṣayrafī Abū Shuʿayb; both are trustworthy, and Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī wrote from them, as found in his son’s work (2/1/404 and 416). The rest of the narrators are reliable.

64 – Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn, master of the ḥadith scholars (d. 233 AH)

224 – Al-Najjād reported: Jaʿfar ibn Abī ʿUthmān al-Ṭayālisī narrated to us from Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn, who said:

“If the Jahmite says to you, ‘How does He descend?’ reply, ‘How did He ascend?’”

I say: In both cases, attributing a modality to Allah Most High is rejected; human reason has no access to it.

Yaḥyā needs no introduction—he bore the banner of hadith. He died in the Prophet’s city, Medina, in 233 AH.

196 – I say: I do not know this Jaʿfar. As for al-Najjād, he is Aḥmad ibn Salmān Abū Bakr al-Faqīh, a trustworthy ḥāfiẓ who died in 348 AH.

65 – ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī, Imām of the hadith scholars (d. 234 AH)
