55 – Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab al-ʿĀbid, the ascetic, senior teacher of Baghdad (d. 228 AH)
213 – Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAṭṭār said: I heard Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab al-ʿĀbid say:
“Whoever claims that You do not speak and will not be seen in the Hereafter is a disbeliever in Your Countenance. I testify that You are above the Throne, above the seven heavens, unlike what the enemies of Allah—the heretics—assert.”
This was recorded by ʿAbd Allah ibn Aḥmad and, after him, by Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraquṭnī.
186 – It appears in al-Sunnah ⦗34⦘, and al-Khaṭīb cited it in History 3/280 through the route of al-Dāraquṭnī. Ibn Saʿd further related:
“Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab, whose kunya is Abū Jaʿfar, was a reciter of the Book of Allah; he heard ḥadith, associated with scholars, and—Allah willing—was trustworthy. He died in Baghdad in 228 AH.”
I say: This is someone other than Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab al-Qarqasānī.
Al-Khaṭīb likewise gave a notice for Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAṭṭār (3/203–204) and transmitted from ʿAbd Allah ibn Aḥmad that he called him “trustworthy.” Hence the chain is sound, and the author authenticated it in his Mukhtaṣar.
214 – Al-Marwazī¹ said: I heard Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Khuffāf say, “I heard Ibn Muṣʿab recite, ‘It may be that your Lord will raise you to a Praiseworthy Station’ (17:79); he then said, ‘Yes—He will seat him with Him upon the Throne.’”
Imām Aḥmad mentioned Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab, saying: “I have written from him, and what a man he was! As for the claim that our Prophet will sit upon the Throne, no authentic text establishes it; in this regard there is only a weak ḥadith.”²
56 – Sunaid ibn Dāwūd al-Maṣīṣī, the ḥāfiẓ (d. 226 AH)
215 – Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī said: Abū ʿImrān al-Ṭarsūsī narrated to us:
