Mukhtasar al-Uluww lil-Ali al-AzimA-Dhahabi

from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khalīfah, from ʿUmar, who related it with similar wording.
Al-Dārimī recorded the report in al-Radd ʿalā al-Marīsī ⦗74⦘. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad also cited it ⦗70⦘, saying: “My father narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Abū Isḥāq,” with the same wording found in the book, and the full text adds: “A creaking was heard, like the creaking of a brand-new saddle.”
I say: This chain is weak. Concerning ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khalīfah, the author states in al-Mīzān: “He is virtually unknown.”

162- I add: Ibn al-ʿImād mentioned al-Tamīmī under the deaths for the year 226 AH:
“Shaykh of Khurasan, Imām Yaḥyā ibn Yaḥyā ibn Bakr al-Tamīmī al-Nīsābūrī. Ibn Rāhwayh said, ‘I have never seen anyone like Yaḥyā ibn Yaḥyā, and I do not think he ever met anyone comparable to himself.’ He passed away while recognized as the leading authority of the age.”
I say: The chain is therefore perfectly sound. Abridged versions were also transmitted by several authorities: ʿAbd Allāh ⦗25⦘, Abū Dāwūd ⦗266⦘, and al-Bayhaqī ⦗249–250⦘.

186- Aḥmad al-Dūraqī said: I heard Wakīʿ declare, “We accept these hadiths exactly as they have come; we do not ask, ‘How is that?’ nor ‘Why is that?’—such as the hadith, ‘He will carry the heavens upon one Finger,’ and, ‘The heart of the human being lies between two Fingers of the Most Merciful.’”

163- I say: ʿAbd Allāh related it ⦗55⦘ with the wording, “Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated it to me….” The chain is sound. The two hadiths alluded to here were already documented under entry 174.

39- ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī, the leading scholar (125–198 AH)

187- More than one narrator, with an authentic chain, reported from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān—about whom ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī said, “The custodian of the Ummah’s ḥadith legacy; were I to swear between the Corner and the Station, I would swear that I have never seen anyone more knowledgeable than Ibn Mahdī”—that he stated: “The Jahmites have tried to deny that Allah spoke to Moses and that He is upon the Throne. In my judgment they must be summoned to repent; if they do so, all is well, otherwise their necks are to be struck.”
