156- I say: Its chain of transmission is sound.
34- Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh, that eminent Imām (d. 194 AH)
176- Ḥāfiẓ Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī said: I heard ʿAlī ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Anmāṭī say, “I heard Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh declare: ‘The Quran is the speech of Allah; He entrusted it to Gabriel, and Gabriel conveyed it to Muhammad ﷺ. From Him it originated, and to Him it shall return.’”
157- I say: Its chain is sound, for ʿAlī ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Anmāṭī is reliable, even though al-Dhahabī accused him on account of a report he transmitted with an authentic chain from ʿĀʾishah, marfūʿ: “The leaders of the caliphate after me are Abū Bakr and ʿUmar.” Al-Ḥāfiẓ answered him in al-Lisān, saying: “And in Ibn Ḥibbān’s al-Thiqāt: ‘ʿAlī ibn Ṣāliḥ. He narrates from ʿUbayd Allah ibn Idrīs; the scholars of Iraq relate from him; his ḥadith is upright.’ This is he—meaning al-Anmāṭī—without a doubt. He narrated from Ibn Abī Fudayk and others, and Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbdak al-Qazwīnī and my father transmitted from him; he is trustworthy. My father was asked about him and replied, ‘Reliable.’” Abū Ḥātim narrated from this man just as he did from al-Anmāṭī, so they are one and the same—and Allah knows best.
177- Imām Abū Dāwūd said: Ḥamzah ibn Saʿīd al-Marwazī narrated to us: I asked Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh, and he replied, “Whoever claims that the Quran is created is, in our view, a disbelieving heretic.”
158- I say: Abū Dāwūd recorded this in al-Masāʾil (p. 267) with a good chain.
178- Yaḥyā al-Ḥammānī said: Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to me, “One night I went to Zamzam and drew from it a bucket full of milk and honey.”
179- Abū Hāshim al-Rifāʿī said: I heard Abū Bakr say, “Creation is divided into four: the excused, the informed, the compelled, and the forsaken. The excused are the animals, and the informed—so Ibn…"
