145- I remark: Ibn ʿAdī recorded this incident in the biography of Bukayr in al-Kāmil, adding, “I hope there is nothing objectionable in him.” Through Ibn ʿAdī’s route the author—may Allah have mercy on him—also cited it. Ibn ʿAdī said ⦗2/37⦘: “Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar informed me: I heard Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf al-Istarābādhī say: I heard Ibrāhīm ibn Mūsā say—,” and then he narrated the story.
I add: I have not identified this Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar.
28- Bishr ibn ʿUmar al-Zuhrānī, the ḥāfiẓ (…–207 AH)
167- ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shīrawayh said: I heard Isḥāq ibn Rāhwayh relate to us from Bishr ibn ʿUmar who said: I heard more than one exegete say with regard to the verse, “The All-Merciful rose over the Throne,” that He ascended over the Throne.
146- I comment: This chain is sound and uninterrupted, each narrator being a reliable ḥāfiẓ. Isḥāq ibn Rāhwayh is a well-known trustworthy ḥāfiẓ and a contemporary of Imām Aḥmad. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shīrawayh is also a trustworthy ḥāfiẓ; he is ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Shīrawayh ibn Asad al-Qurashī al-Muṭṭalibī al-Nīsābūrī. Shadharāt al-Dhahab ⦗2/246⦘ says of him:
“One of the reliable authorities; he heard from Isḥāq ibn Rāhwayh, Aḥmad ibn Manīʿ, and their peers, authored works, and was trustworthy.”
29- Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, the master of the ḥuffāẓ (120–198 AH)
1268- Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī said: ʿAbbās al-ʿAnbarī narrated to me, ‘I heard Abū al-Walīd al-Ṭayālisī say: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd said, “How can one recite ‘Say: He is Allah, One’ and then claim that it is created?!”’
147- I remark: This isnād is sound. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad also recorded it ⦗p. 26⦘ in the wording:
“Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd said to me: How do they deal with ‘Say: He is Allah, One’? How do they deal with the verse, ‘Indeed, I am Allah’? Could that be created?!”
