The compiler, in al-Mīzān under the entry of al-Jaʿd—and al-Ḥāfiẓ followed him word-for-word in Lisān al-Mīzān—stated:
“Classed among the Successors, yet an errant innovator. He alleged that Allah never took Abraham as an intimate friend and never spoke to Moses. Because of that he was executed in Iraq on the Day of Sacrifice. The tale is well known.”
116 – al-Sarī ibn Yaḥyā related: “Khālid al-Qasrī delivered the ʿĪd sermon and said, ‘Return to your sacrificial animals—may Allah accept from you—while I shall offer al-Jaʿd as my own sacrifice,’ and then he recounted the incident.”
101 – The author says: I read in The Refutation of the Jahmites by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥātim al-Rāzī, the prolific writer: ‘ʿĪsā ibn Abī ʿImrān al-Ramlī narrated to us; Ayyūb ibn Suwayd narrated to us from al-Sarī ibn Yaḥyā …’
I comment: All the transmitters in this chain are deemed reliable except for this ʿĪsā. Ibn Abī Ḥātim wrote in al-Jarḥ wa-l-Taʿdīl (3/1/284): “I wrote from him in Ramla; my father examined his narrations and said, ‘His ḥadīths show that he is not truthful,’ so I ceased reporting from him.”
I further remark: It is quite possible that what he reported from him was simply this story, since it is not a prophetic ḥadīth. Allah knows best.
