Reports that have reached us from the Successors concerning the divine elevation
97 – Kaʿb al-Aḥbār said: Allah declared in the Torah, “I am Allah, above My servants; My Throne is above all of creation; I am upon My Throne, directing the affairs of My servants. Nothing in the heaven or on the earth is hidden from Me.” Its transmitters are trustworthy.
87 – The compiler cited it through the chain of Abū Ṣafwān al-Umawī, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān: “Yūsuf ibn Yazīd narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Ibn al-Musayyab, from him.” This isnād is sound; its men are those relied upon by the Two Shaykhs, provided the link to Abū Ṣafwān is authentic. Abū Shaykh also recorded it in al-ʿUẓmah (39/2) through the route of Nuʿaym ibn Ḥammād, “Abū Ṣafwān narrated it to us.” Nuʿaym is weak, yet it appears he was not the sole transmitter, for I have noticed that the compiler, in his al-Arbaʿīn fī Ṣifāt Rabb al-ʿĀlamīn (fol. 2/1), asserted its authenticity from Kaʿb, and I do not think he would have done so had Nuʿaym been alone in reporting it. Ibn al-Qayyim stated in Juyūshuhu (p. 102), “Abū Shaykh, Ibn Baṭṭah, and others have transmitted it from him with a sound chain.” This supports what we have mentioned about the absence of solitary transmission.
98 – Masrūq used to say, whenever he narrated from ʿĀʾishah, “The Truthful Lady, daughter of the Truthful, the beloved of Allah’s Beloved, she who was vindicated from above the seven heavens, related to me.” Its chain is sound.⦗1⦘
99 – ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr reported: “The Lord descends in the middle of the night to the lowest heaven and says, ‘Who will ask Me so that I may grant him? Who will seek My forgiveness so that I may forgive him?’—until …”
