95 – Hadith of Zayd ibn Aslam: Ibn ʿUmar once passed by a shepherd and said, “Do you have a jazrah (a sheep we can slaughter)?” The shepherd replied, “Its owner is not here.” Ibn ʿUmar suggested, “Tell him, ‘A wolf ate it.’” The man then raised his head toward the sky and said, “So where is Allah?” Ibn ʿUmar exclaimed, “By Allah, I am the one who ought to be saying, ‘Where is Allah?’” He bought the shepherd together with the flock, set the man free, and handed him the sheep.
86 – The compiler originally cited it through the transmission of Abū Muṣʿab al-Zuhrī: “ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith al-Jumaḥī told us, ‘Zayd ibn Aslam related to me …’” I say: this chain is good. Its narrators are those relied on by the Two Shaykhs, except for ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith al-Jumaḥī—al-Ḥāṭabī—who is truthful (ṣadūq) according to al-Taqrīb.
96 – Hadith of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Salām: “Allah began the creation of the earth, forming seven earths on Sunday and Monday; He allotted their provision on Tuesday and Wednesday; then He turned toward the heaven and fashioned them in two days,” and he went on with the remainder of the report. Its chain is sound. ⦗86/2⦘
86/2 – Such are his words. Ibn Mandah also recorded it in al-Tawḥīd (fol. 27/1): “al-Ḥasan ibn Yūsuf al-Ṭāʾifī in Egypt informed us: Ibrāhīm ibn Marzūq narrated to us: ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar al-Ṭarāʾifī …” Al-ʿIrāqī considered him suspect; consult Lisān al-Mīzān.
