As for the other side of the matter, the Most High says:
“For the wrongdoing of the Jews, We forbade them good things that had been lawful for them, and for their frequent obstruction of Allah’s way,”
“and for their taking usury, though they had been forbidden it, and their wrongful consumption of people’s wealth.”
He also says:
“To the Jews We forbade every animal with claws,”
through to His words:
“That is how We repaid them for their transgression.”
The Most High also says:
“Ask them about the town by the sea, when they transgressed on the Sabbath,”
and so on to the end of the verses.
As for making things lawful and granting provisions being a test, He says:
“If they remained steadfast on the right path, We would give them abundant water,”
“to test them thereby.”
“And among them are those who pledged to Allah, ‘If He gives us of His bounty, we will surely give charity and be among the righteous.’”
“But when He gave them of His bounty, they became miserly with it and turned away in aversion,”
and the following verses.
“We have made all that is on earth an adornment for it, to test which of them is best in deeds.”
“Eat and drink, but do not be excessive. Indeed, He does not love those who are excessive.”
“O Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy,”
through to His words:
“Eat of the good things We have provided for you, but do not transgress therein, lest My wrath descend upon you. Whoever incurs My wrath has indeed fallen into ruin.”
Whether something is lawful or unlawful also varies according to intention, as the Most High says:
“Their husbands have a greater right to take them back during that period, if they intend reconciliation.”
He also says:
“After carrying out any bequest made or paying any debt, without causing harm.”
