and its interpretation. From this also derive metaphor and simile in names and languages: either in the original assignment of a word, so that its use becomes literal, or only in its use, accompanied by a contextual indication, when the literal meaning has the stronger claim. For things designated by similar names are themselves similar.

From this also derives the use of examples and comparisons, sometimes to convey a concept and sometimes to establish a proposition. These are immensely beneficial, for the mind directly apprehends few realities; whatever it has not apprehended, it knows only by analogy with what it already knows. If this holds for acquiring knowledge, it applies all the more to imparting knowledge and addressing people.

Resemblance and equivalence may exist between two external realities, between two mental representations, or between an external reality and a mental representation.

The first is expressed as:
“This is like that.”

The second is expressed as:
“The likeness of this is like the likeness of that.”

The third is expressed as:
“This is like the likeness of that.”

Thus, likeness may be expressed once, twice, or three times when the comparison involves an external reality, as in His words:

“Their likeness is like that of one who kindled a fire.”

This concerns likeness. As for justice, Allah Most High says:

“When you speak, be just, even if it concerns a close relative.”

And He Most High says:

“Stand firm for justice as witnesses for Allah,”

and the rest of the verse. He also says:

“Stand firm for Allah as witnesses in justice.”

And He says:

“When death approaches any of you, at the time of making a bequest, let two just men from among you bear witness.”

“And call two just men from among you as witnesses.”

Justice and equity in these passages mean truthfulness
