Allah Most High said:
“Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers, wish to make a distinction between Allah and His messengers, say, ‘We believe in some and disbelieve in others,’ and wish to take a path in between—it is they who are truly disbelievers.”
He also said:
“Do you then believe in part of the Scripture and disbelieve in part? What recompense is there for those among you who do this except disgrace in the life of this world? On the Day of Resurrection, they will be returned to the severest punishment.”
Through to His words: “you do.”
He has also said to us:
“Say, ‘We believe in Allah, in what has been revealed to us, in what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, in what Moses and Jesus were given, and in what the prophets were given by their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit.’
“If they believe as you have believed, they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, they are only in opposition. Allah will suffice you against them, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
Thus, He commanded us to say: We believe in all of this, and to Him we submit. Whoever receives the message of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, but does not acknowledge what he brought is neither a Muslim nor a believer. Rather, he is a disbeliever, even if he claims to be a Muslim or a believer.
As they relate, when Allah Most High revealed:
“Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers,”
the Jews and Christians said, “We too are Muslims.” Then Allah revealed:
“Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah by people who are able to make their way there.”
They said, “We will not perform pilgrimage.” Then He, Most High, said:
“Whoever disbelieves—Allah has no need of any of His creation.”
For submission to Allah is not complete without acknowledging His right over His servants to require pilgrimage to the House, just as
