As for the details, we say:
People adopt two opposite extremes regarding the examination of evidence and imitation. Some require everyone to examine the evidence even in subtle questions, whether fundamental or subsidiary. Others forbid anyone from examining the evidence in subtle questions, both fundamental and subsidiary. The best course is the middle one.
وَأَمَّا تَفْصِيلُهَا فَنَقُولُ:
النَّاسُ فِي الِاسْتِدْلَالِ وَالتَّقْلِيدِ عَلَى طَرَفَيْ نَقِيضٍ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُوجِبُ الِاسْتِدْلَالَ حَتَّى فِي الْمَسَائِلِ الدَّقِيقَةِ: أُصُولِهَا وَفُرُوعِهَا عَلَى كُلِّ أَحَدٍ. وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُحَرِّمُ الِاسْتِدْلَالَ فِي الدَّقِيقِ عَلَى كُلِّ أَحَدٍ وَهَذَا فِي الْأُصُولِ وَالْفُرُوعِ وَخِيَارُ الْأُمُورِ أَوْسَاطُهَا.
