anything except for His sake. Whoever associates another with Him in these two respects has not devoted true love to Him and is thus a polytheist; his association of partners diminishes the reality of that love. As Allah Most High says:

“Yet among people are those who take others as equals to Allah, loving them as they love Allah”—the verse.

Love entails humility and obedience. Islam means submitting to Allah alone, not to anyone else. Whoever submits to Him and to another is a polytheist, while whoever refuses to submit to Him is arrogant. Both are contrary to Islam. The heart can only be sound through worshipping Allah alone, and fully realizing this fulfils the prophetic call.

Calling to Allah is an expression of love. It means calling people to believe in Him and in what His messengers brought, accepting their reports as true and obeying their commands. Calling to this is part of calling to Allah Most High. Likewise, forbidding what Allah and His Messenger hate is part of calling to Allah.

Calling to Allah also includes the servant doing what Allah and His Messenger love and abandoning what Allah and His Messenger hate, in both inward and outward words and deeds, in accordance with what the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, conveyed concerning Allah’s names and attributes, and concerning creation at large, such as the Throne, the Footstool, the angels, and the prophets; and that Allah and His Messenger should be dearer to him than anything else.

شَيْئًا إلَّا لَهُ وَمَنْ أَشْرَكَ غَيْرَهُ فِي هَذَا وَهَذَا لَمْ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ حَقِيقَةَ الْحُبِّ فَهُوَ مُشْرِكٌ؛ وَإِشْرَاكُهُ يُوجِبُ نَقْصَ الْحَقِيقَةِ. كَقَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: {وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَتَّخِذُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْدَادًا يُحِبُّونَهُمْ كَحُبِّ اللَّهِ} الْآيَةَ. وَالْحُبُّ يُوجِبُ الذُّلَّ وَالطَّاعَةَ وَالْإِسْلَامُ: أَنْ يَسْتَسْلِمَ لِلَّهِ لَا لِغَيْرِهِ فَمَنْ اسْتَسْلَمَ لَهُ وَلِغَيْرِهِ فَهُوَ مُشْرِكٌ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَسْلِمْ لَهُ فَهُوَ مُتَكَبِّرٌ وَكِلَاهُمَا ضِدُّ الْإِسْلَامِ. وَالْقَلْبُ لَا يَصْلُحُ إلَّا بِعِبَادَةِ اللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ وَتَحْقِيقُ هَذَا تَحْقِيقُ الدَّعْوَةِ النَّبَوِيَّةِ. وَمِنْ الْمَحَبَّةِ الدَّعْوَةُ إلَى اللَّهِ؛ وَهِيَ الدَّعْوَةُ إلَى الْإِيمَانِ بِهِ وَبِمَا جَاءَتْ بِهِ رُسُلُهُ بِتَصْدِيقِهِمْ فِيمَا أَخْبَرُوا بِهِ وَطَاعَتِهِمْ بِمَا أَمَرُوا بِهِ فَالدَّعْوَةُ إلَيْهِ مِنْ الدَّعْوَةِ إلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَمَا أَبْغَضَهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَمِنْ الدَّعْوَةِ إلَى اللَّهِ النَّهْيُ عَنْهُ وَمِنْ الدَّعْوَةِ إلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يَفْعَلَ الْعَبْدُ مَا أَحَبَّهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَيَتْرُكَ مَا أَبْغَضَهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ مِنْ الْأَقْوَالِ وَالْأَعْمَالِ الْبَاطِنَةِ وَالظَّاهِرَةِ بِمَا أَخْبَرَ بِهِ الرَّسُولُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ اللَّهِ وَصِفَاتِهِ وَمِنْ سَائِرِ الْمَخْلُوقَاتِ كَالْعَرْشِ وَالْكُرْسِيِّ؛ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَأَنْ يَكُونَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَحَبَّ إلَيْهِ مِمَّا سِوَاهُمَا.
