succeed.” Allah, Most High, also says:
“Whatever blessing you have is from Allah.”
And He, Most High, says:
“He has lavished upon you His blessings, both outward and inward.”
And He, Most High, says:
“If you were to count Allah’s blessings, you could not enumerate them.”
When the servant remembers the blessings Allah has bestowed upon him—placing the sky and the earth, and the trees and animals within them, at his service, and lavishing upon him inward blessings, such as faith and others—this is bound to awaken a motivating impulse within him. Likewise, fear is stirred by contemplating the verses concerning threats of punishment, stern warnings, being presented before Allah, the reckoning, and similar matters. Hope, in turn, is stirred by contemplating His generosity, forbearance, and pardon, and what has been related concerning hope.
The discussion of Allah’s oneness is extensive. The purpose here is merely to point out, with the briefest indication, the freedom from need that it entails. Allah—Glorified and Exalted—is most knowing. May Allah send blessings and peace upon Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
