Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

(may Allah bless him and grant him peace):

“Woe to you! Who would be just if I were not just?” He also said, “You would indeed have failed and lost if I were not just.”

That is, if you follow someone who is unjust, you are a failure and have suffered loss.

He also said:

“Does He who is in heaven trust me, while you do not trust me?”

He means: If Allah has entrusted me with conveying His words, will you not trust me to discharge the trust owed to Allah? Allah Most High says:

“It is not for a prophet to betray a trust.”

In short, the Quran requires obedience to him in his judgments and his distribution of wealth, and condemns anyone who turns away from him in either matter. Thus, concerning his judgments, Allah Most High says:

“But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge concerning what they dispute among themselves, then find within themselves no discomfort over what you have decided and submit completely.”

Allah Most High also says:

“Have you not seen those who claim to believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They wish to seek judgment from false authorities, although they were commanded to reject them. Satan wishes to lead them far astray.”

“When they are told, ‘Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,’ you see the hypocrites turning away from you in aversion.”

“How will it be when disaster strikes them because of what their own hands have done, and then they come to you, swearing by Allah, ‘We intended nothing but goodwill and reconciliation’?”

“Those are the ones whose hearts Allah knows. So turn away from them, admonish them, and speak to them words that reach their very souls.”

“We sent no messenger except to be obeyed by Allah’s permission. If, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you and asked Allah’s forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them
