Among the reports they attribute to him, peace and blessings be upon him, is that he said:

“Allah Most High says: ‘Meet Me with your intentions, and do not meet Me with your deeds.’”

He replied:

“Praise be to Allah. This wording is not known to have been reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.”

“Whoever brings a jug to someone performing ablution is as though he had provided a saddled and bridled steed to be ridden in battle in Allah’s cause.”

“These are not the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor is this report known in any of the recognized books of the Muslims.”
