Among the reports they attribute to him, peace and blessings be upon him, is:

“Whoever eats with someone who has been forgiven will be forgiven.”

He replied:

“Praise be to Allah. The scholars have transmitted no chain of narration for this, nor is it found in any of the books of the Muslims. They merely relate it from Sālim. Its meaning is not true without qualification, for disbelievers and hypocrites may eat with Muslims.”

Among the reports they also relate is:

“Whoever relieves someone’s hunger or covers someone’s nakedness, I guarantee him Paradise.”

He replied:

“Praise be to Allah. This wording is not known to have come from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.”

“Do not hate tribulations, for through them the hypocrites are cut down.”

He replied:

“Praise be to Allah. This is not known to have come from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.”

Among the reports they relate is:

“Reviling my Companions is a sin that will not be forgiven.”

He—may Allah have mercy on him—replied:

“This is a lie attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Allah Most High has said:

‘Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, but He forgives anything less than that for whomever He wills.’”

Among the reports they relate is:

“Whoever teaches his brother a verse from the Book of Allah has thereby gained ownership of him as a slave.”

He replied:

“Praise be to Allah. This is a lie. It is not found in any of the books of the scholars.”

Among the reports they attribute to him is:

“A verse of the Quran is better than Muhammad and his family.”
