the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. As for the words attributed to him, ‘Shake your karābīl; may Allah bless you!’ these are not known to have been reported from him, peace and blessings be upon him.”
Among the reports they attribute to him is that he said:
“If Abū Bakr’s faith were weighed against the faith of all people, Abū Bakr’s faith would outweigh it.”
He replied:
“Praise be to Allah. The meaning of this is conveyed in a well-known hadith in the Sunan collections: Abū Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, was weighed against this community and outweighed it.”
Among the reports they attribute to him, peace and blessings be upon him, is that he said:
“O Allah, You have brought me out of the place most beloved to me, so settle me in the place most beloved to You.”
He replied:
“Praise be to Allah. This is false. Rather, it is established in al-Tirmidhī and elsewhere that he addressed Mecca, saying: ‘By Allah, you are the most beloved of Allah’s lands to Allah.’ He also said: ‘You are the most beloved of lands to me.’ Thus, he stated that it was the most beloved of lands both to Allah and to himself.”
Among the reports they attribute to him, peace and blessings be upon him, is:
“Whoever visits me and my forefather Abraham in the same year will enter Paradise.”
He replied:
“Praise be to Allah. This hadith is a lie and a fabrication. No hadith scholar has transmitted it.”
Among the reports they attribute to him, peace and blessings be upon him, is:
“Your poor.”
He replied:
“Praise be to Allah. This wording has not been transmitted, but its meaning is sound: the poor are recipients of kindness, and through them good deeds are earned.”
Among the reports they attribute to him, peace and blessings be upon him, is:
“Blessing is with your elders.”
