He replied:

“Praise be to Allah. This is an obvious lie. No hadith scholar has transmitted it; only an ignorant person or a heretic would relate it.”

Among the reports they attribute to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is that he said:

“I am the city of knowledge, and ‘Alī is its gate.”

He replied:

“This hadith is weak—indeed, fabricated according to hadith experts. Al-Tirmidhī and others have transmitted it, but despite this, it is a lie.”

Among the reports they attribute to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is:

“Allah will offer an apology to the poor on the Day of Resurrection, saying: ‘By My might and majesty, worldly things were not withheld from you because you were of little worth to Me. Rather, I wished to raise your standing on this Day. Go to the gathering place, and whoever showed you kindness with a morsel of bread, gave you a drink of water, or clothed you with a piece of cloth, take them with you to Paradise.’”

He replied:

“Praise be to Allah. This account is a lie. No hadith scholar has transmitted it. It is false and, by consensus, contrary to the Quran and Sunnah.”

Among the reports they attribute to him, peace and blessings be upon him, is:

“When he arrived in Medina during the Hijrah, the girls of Banū al-Najjār came out with frame drums, singing:

‘The full moon has risen upon us …
From the passes of al-Wadā‘’

—and so on to the end of the poem. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘Shake your karābīl; may Allah bless you!’”

He replied:

“As for women beating frame drums at weddings, this was a known practice in the time of
