And he said:

“Every prophet has devoted supporters, and my devoted supporter is al-Zubayr.”

These hadiths and others like them in the authentic collections leave no need for fabrications. Likewise, the account of the Angel of Death coming in the form of a Bedouin and giving the Prophet an apple, which he smelled, is also a fabrication. Indeed, the lengthy report concerning the Prophet’s death, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—which relates that the Angel of Death knocked at the door, that people came out to him one after another, and that, upon recognizing him, they humbled themselves before him—is also a fabrication, by agreement of the scholars versed in hadith. This is so despite its having been transmitted by al-Tabarānī through ‘Abd al-Mun‘im ibn Idrīs, from his father, from Wahb ibn Munabbih, from Ibn ‘Abbās. This ‘Abd al-Mun‘im is notorious for fabrications.

Likewise, the account that Fātimah wept over the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, until she disturbed the people of Medina and they sent her out to the houses of mourning is another invented falsehood. Only an ignorant person, or someone intent on reviling Fātimah and the Companions—may Allah be pleased with them—would transmit such a story, attributing to them conduct from which Allah has preserved Fātimah and the Companions.
