Praise be to Allah, Lord of all worlds. These reports are fabrications by the consensus of the scholars. Such reports are drawn only from works like al-Bakrī’s Tanaqqulāt al-anwār (The Passage of the Lights), and from others like him who transmitted numerous lies.
As for the first account, the moon did not enter the neck opening of the Prophet’s clothing, peace and blessings be upon him, nor his garments, nor did it touch him. Rather, it split into two parts: one below the mountain and the other above it. Likewise, Habīb Abī Mālik never existed. The report mentioned about Bashīr ibn Ghannām is also a lie, and this name is unknown. Khālid ibn al-Walīd was never taken captive at all. Rather, he embraced Islam after al-Hudaybiyyah and remained victorious in his battles.
Likewise, what is related about the so-called King al-Dihāq is a lie. No one bearing this name was among those whom the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fought. [He] lived; however, among those in this community who lived after death, there was a group in the time of the Companions and their Successors. As for the believers whose mounts Allah restored to life after death, some were Muslims during the lifetime of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, while others lived after his death, peace and blessings be upon him.
