What do the esteemed scholars—may Allah be pleased with them all—say concerning storytellers who recount the Prophet’s military campaigns, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the stories of the prophets, peace be upon them, below the citadel, in congregational mosques and in marketplaces? They say:
An angel named Habīb came to the Prophet and said to him, “If you are Allah’s Messenger, we want the moon, on the twenty-ninth night, to return, descend through your collar and emerge from your sleeves.” He showed them this, and they all believed in him. He said, “They were the Lord.”
They also say that a king named Bashīr ibn Ghannām came to him, tricked him and seized nine people from him, whom he hung on palm trees. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, sent ‘Alī, who rescued them. Khālid was among them.
A king called al-Dihāq came to him while he was in Mecca. He had a daughter named Hamānah. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, then broke [him] and married his daughter to Bilāl. He then killed him while he was praying. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, laid down his cloak, and Allah restored him to life for him.
