Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Allah sufficient for His servant?” And He says:

“Whoever fears Allah, He will make a way out for him and provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever puts his trust in Allah, He is sufficient for him.”

Thus, for the Muslim who follows the Messenger, Allah Most High is sufficient: He meets his needs and is his Protector, wherever and whenever he may be. Hence, Muslims who hold fast to Islam in lands of unbelief are found to enjoy greater happiness the more fully they adhere to Islam. If harm befalls them, it is because of their sins. Indeed, when polytheists and the People of the Scripture see a Muslim who faithfully practices Islam, they revere and honor him and exempt him from the tasks they impose on those who profess Islam outwardly without putting its reality into practice; the latter are not honored.

Such was the situation of Muslims in the early days of Islam, and so it has been in every age. People inevitably experience harm in this world, and Allah bestows blessings upon His servants. Yet the harm that befalls the Muslim is less, and the blessings he receives are greater. Thus, although Muslims in the early days of Islam were tried by the harm inflicted by the unbelievers and by being driven from their homes, the destruction that befell the unbelievers was far greater. Whatever honor or wealth the unbelievers attained, the Muslims attained more—even from outsiders.
