the Book, in His words:
“Guide us to the straight path.”
According to the Qadariyyah, Allah can provide no guidance beyond what He has already done: sending the messengers, establishing the proofs, and removing impediments. In their view, the believer enjoys no advantage over the disbeliever in Allah’s guidance, nor has Allah bestowed any greater favor upon the believer than upon the disbeliever in this regard.
He has made clear that He singles out some for this guidance, after mentioning the universality of His call, in His words:
“Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path.”
Thus, the hadith combines declaring Him free of the injustice that some proponents of affirmation deem possible for Him with explaining that He is the One who guides His servants, thereby refuting the Qadariyyah. There He declares His justice, which some proponents of affirmation mention; here He declares His beneficence and power, which the Qadariyyah deny. Yet each group intends to glorify Him, without recognizing what its position entails.
The fourth category is guidance in the Hereafter, as Allah Most High says:
“Indeed, Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds into gardens beneath which rivers flow. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their clothing therein will be silk.”
“They will be guided to good speech and guided to the path of the Praiseworthy.”
He also says:
“Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds—their Lord will guide them because of their faith. Rivers will flow beneath them in Gardens of Bliss.”
His words, “Their Lord will guide them because of their faith,” are like His words:
