We sent before you as Our messengers: did We appoint any gods besides the Most Merciful to be worshipped?”
And He, Most High, said:
“We certainly sent a messenger to every nation, saying, ‘Worship Allah and shun false gods.’”
And He, Most High, said:
“He has ordained for you the same religion that He enjoined upon Noah, and that which We have revealed to you, and that which We enjoined upon Abraham, Moses and Jesus: uphold the religion and do not divide yourselves within it.”
And He, Most High, said:
“O messengers, eat of good things and do righteous deeds. Indeed, I know all that you do.”
“And indeed, this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so fear Me.”
For this reason, al-Bukhārī included in his Sahīh a chapter entitled “Reports Establishing That the Religion of the Prophets Is One,” and cited the authentic hadith concerning this. This is Islam in its universal sense, upon which all the prophets agreed. Noah, peace be upon him, said:
“And I have been commanded to be among the Muslims.”
And He, Most High, said concerning Abraham:
“When his Lord said to him, ‘Submit,’ he said, ‘I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds.’”
“And Abraham enjoined this upon his sons, as did Jacob: ‘My sons, Allah has chosen this religion for you, so do not die except as Muslims.’”
“And Moses said, ‘My people, if you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him, if you are Muslims.’”
And He, Most High, said:
“The disciples said, ‘We are Allah’s helpers. We believe in Allah, and bear witness that we are Muslims.’”
And He said in the account of Bilqīs:
“My Lord, I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.”
And He said:
“Indeed, We sent down the Torah, containing guidance and light. By it, the prophets who submitted to Allah judged for the Jews.”
