Shaykh al-Islām was asked about the meaning of the hadith narrated by Abū Dharr—may Allah be pleased with him—from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—reporting that Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said:
“O My servants, I have forbidden injustice for Myself and have made it forbidden among you, so do not wrong one another.
O My servants, all of you are astray except those whom I guide, so seek guidance from Me and I shall guide you.
O My servants, all of you are hungry except those whom I feed, so ask Me for food and I shall feed you.
O My servants, all of you are naked except those whom I clothe, so ask Me for clothing and I shall clothe you.
O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek My forgiveness and I shall forgive you.
O My servants, you can never harm Me, nor can you ever benefit Me.
O My servants, if all of you, from the first to the last, humans and jinn alike, were as pious in heart as the most pious man among you, that would not increase My dominion in the slightest.
O My servants, if all of you, from the first to the last, humans and jinn alike, were as wicked in heart as the most wicked man among you, that would not diminish My dominion in the slightest.
O My servants, if all of you, from the first to the last, humans and jinn alike, stood together on a single plain and asked of Me, and I granted each person what he asked for, that would diminish what I possess no more than a needle diminishes the sea when dipped into it.
O My servants, it is only your deeds that I record for you; then I shall recompense you in full
