Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

Nor is the following account established:

“When Abraham, Allah’s close friend, peace be upon him, built the House, he prayed a thousand rakʿahs at each corner. Allah Most High then revealed to him: ‘O Abraham, this neither relieves hunger nor covers nakedness.’”

This is an obvious lie, found in none of the Muslims’ books.

As for what they relate:

“Do not hate tribulation, for through it the hypocrites are cut down.”

This is not known to have been reported from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

As for what they relate:

“Whoever teaches his brother a verse from Allah’s Book owns him as a slave.”

This is a lie, found in none of the scholars’ books.

As for what they relate from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:

“I surveyed the sins of my community and found no one guilty of a greater sin than someone who learned a verse and then forgot it.”

If this hadith is authentic, then forgetting here means forgetting its recitation. The wording of the hadith is that he said:

“Among the sins of my community is that a man is given a verse of the Quran by Allah, but sleeps through it until he forgets it.”

Forgetting can mean turning away from the Quran and abandoning belief in it and acting upon it. As for neglecting to review it until it is forgotten, that is a sin.

As for what they relate:

“A verse of the Quran is better than Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. The Quran is Allah’s speech, sent down and uncreated, and is not to be likened to anything else.”

The wording cited has not been transmitted.
