‘Ayyāsh: Mūsā ibn ‘Uqbah narrated to us, from Nāfi‘, from Ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Neither a person in a state of major ritual impurity nor a menstruating woman may recite any part of the Quran.”
This is the wording of al-Jawharī’s narration. Al-Tirmidhī narrated it from Ibn ‘Arafah and Ibn Hajar, and Ibn Mājah narrated it from Hishām ibn ‘Ammār, all of them from Ismā‘īl.
Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Dā’im also informed us, through a chain with few intermediaries, as it was read to him: Abū al-Faraj ibn Kulayb informed us: Abū al-Qāsim ibn Bayān informed us: Abū al-Hasan ibn Makhlad informed us: al-Saffār informed us (and he related the hadith).
He was born in 601 AH and died in Dhū al-Qa‘dah 690 AH.
Hadith Thirty-One:
