680 AH, as did Abū al-Hasan ibn al-Bukhārī. Both said:
Abū al-Yaman Zayd ibn al-Hasan ibn Zayd al-Kindī informed us, as it was read to him: The judge Abū Bakr Muhammad ibn Abd al-Bāqī ibn Muhammad al-Ansārī informed us: Abū Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Alī ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Jawharī narrated to us by dictation: Abū Bakr Ahmad ibn Ja‘far ibn Hamdān ibn Mālik al-Qatī‘ī informed us: Bishr ibn Mūsā narrated to us: Abū Nu‘aym narrated to us: al-A‘mash narrated to us, from Abū Sālih, from Abū Hurayra, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: ‘Fasting is for Me, and I shall reward it. He gives up his desire, food and drink for My sake. Fasting is a shield, and the fasting person has two joys: joy when he breaks his fast, and joy when he meets Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Indeed, the odor of the fasting person’s mouth is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk.’”
He was born in 594 AH and died on the sixth of Dhū al-Hijja, 680 AH.
Hadith 20:
