The seventh hadith:

The upright shaykh Rashīd al-Dīn Abū Abd Allāh Muhammad ibn Abī Bakr Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Sulaymān al-Āmirī informed us through a reading to him which I heard in 669 AH, as did those previously mentioned, through their chain of transmission to al-Ansārī, who said: Al-Taymī narrated to me: Anas ibn Mālik narrated to us, saying:

“Two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He prayed for mercy—or prayed for mercy—for one of them but not the other—or he prayed for mercy for him but not the other.

“He was asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, two men sneezed in your presence, and you prayed for mercy for one of them but not the other—or you prayed for mercy for him but not the other.’

“He replied, ‘This one praised Allah, so I prayed for mercy for him; this one did not praise Allah, so I did not pray for mercy for him.’”

Al-Bukhārī narrated it from Muhammad ibn Kathīr, from Sufyān al-Thawrī. Muslim narrated it from Muhammad ibn Abd Allāh ibn Numayr, from Hafs ibn Ghiyāth. Both narrated it from al-Taymī. He died in Dhū al-Hijjah 682 AH.

الْحَدِيثُ السَّابِعُ: أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّيْخُ الْعَدْلُ رَشِيدُ الدِّينِ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ الْعَامِرِيُّ قِرَاءَةً عَلَيْهِ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ سَنَةَ ٦٦٩ وَالْمَذْكُورُونَ بِسَنَدِهِمْ إلَى الْأَنْصَارِيِّ حَدَّثَنِي التيمي حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: {عَطَسَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلَانِ فَشَمَّتَ - أَوْ فَشَمَّتَ - أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتْ الْآخَرَ - أَوْ فَشَمَّتَهُ وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتْ الْآخَرَ - فَقِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَطَسَ عِنْدَك رَجُلَانِ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْ الْآخَرَ - أَوْ فَشَمَّتَهُ وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْ الْآخَرَ - فَقَالَ: إنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ فَشَمَّتّه وَأَنَّ هَذَا لَمْ يَحْمَدْ اللَّهَ فَلَمْ أُشَمِّتْهُ.} . رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيّ. وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاث. كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ التيمي. تُوُفِّيَ فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ سَنَةَ ٦٨٢.
