created you in weakness, then after weakness gave you strength, then after strength gave you weakness and gray hair.”
He also says:
“And He will add strength to your strength.”
And:
“And the heaven We built with strength.”
That is, with power. He also says:
“And remember Our servant David, endowed with strength.”
That is, endowed with power. Yet Allah’s knowledge is not like a creature’s knowledge, nor His strength like a creature’s strength.
He has attributed will to Himself and to His servant, saying:
“For whoever among you wills to follow the straight path.”
“But you cannot will unless Allah, the Lord of all worlds, wills.”
He also says:
“Indeed, this is a reminder.”
“So whoever wills may take a way to his Lord.”
“But you cannot will unless Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.”
Likewise, He has attributed intention to Himself and to His servant, saying:
“You desire the fleeting gains of this world, while Allah desires the Hereafter. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.”
He has attributed love to Himself and to His servant, saying:
“Allah will bring forth a people whom He loves and who love Him.”
He also says:
“Say, ‘If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you.’”
He has attributed pleasure to Himself and to His servant, saying:
“Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him.”
It is well known that Allah’s will is not like His servant’s will, nor His intention like His servant’s intention, nor His love like His servant’s love, nor His pleasure like His servant’s pleasure.
Likewise, He has described Himself as abhorring the disbelievers and has attributed abhorrence to them, saying:
“Those who disbelieved will be called out to: ‘Allah’s abhorrence of you was greater than your abhorrence of yourselves, when you were called to faith but disbelieved.’”
Yet Allah’s abhorrence is not like theirs.
