Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

This is the soundest interpretation of the two verses. The same applies to His statement, Most High:

“He said, ‘This is a straight path leading to Me.’”

Related to this through intermediate derivation is sidq (truthfulness), whose root letters are the same as those of qasd. This includes truthfulness in speech, because it corresponds to what is reported, as explained concerning sadād (soundness). Sadq, pronounced with a short a, describes a solid spear; it is also said to mean a straight one. Thus, it is straight and solid, with neither defect nor crookedness. A sundūq (box), whose plural is sanādīq, gathers together whatever is placed inside it.

Something that should be understood concerning derivation is that the statement “This is derived from that” has two meanings.

The first is that the two expressions correspond in wording and meaning, regardless of which expression the speakers of the language used first. In this sense, each expression is derived from the other, since what is meant is that they correspond in wording and meaning. This resembles saying, “This water is from that water,” or “This speech is from that speech.” Accordingly, whether one says that the verb is derived from the verbal noun or that the verbal noun is derived from the verb, both statements are correct. This is the sense of derivation supported by morphological evidence.

As for the second sense of derivation—namely, that one is the source of the other—
