My father narrated to us: Abū Sālih narrated to us: Mu'āwiyah ibn Sālih narrated to us, from 'Alī ibn Abī Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbās, concerning His saying, ‘al-Samad’: he said, ‘The Master whose mastery is perfect, the Noble One whose nobility is perfect, the Great One whose greatness is perfect, the Forbearing One whose forbearance is perfect, the All-Knowing whose knowledge is perfect, and the All-Wise whose wisdom is perfect. He is perfect in every aspect of nobility and mastery. He is Allah, glorified and exalted is He. This is His attribute, which befits none but Him. He has no equal, and there is nothing like Him. Glory be to Allah, the One, the All-Subduing.’

Kathīr ibn Shihāb al-Madhhijī al-Qazwīnī narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Sa'īd ibn Sābiq narrated to us: Abū Ja'far al-Rāzī narrated to us, from al-Rabī' ibn Anas, concerning His saying, ‘al-Samad’: he said, ‘The One who neither begets nor is begotten.’

Abū Sa'īd al-Ashajj narrated to us: Ibn 'Ulayyah narrated to us, from Abū Rajā’, from 'Ikrimah, concerning His saying, ‘al-Samad’: he said, ‘The One from whom nothing has come forth.’

Abū Sa'īd al-Ashajj narrated to us: Abū Ahmad narrated to us: Mindal ibn 'Alī narrated to us, from Abū Rawq 'Atiyyah ibn al-Hārith, from Abū 'Abd al-Rahmān al-Sulamī, from 'Abd Allāh ibn Mas'ūd, who said, ‘Al-Samad is the One who has no internal organs.’ Something similar was also reported from Sa'īd ibn al-Musayyib.
