“We did not create the heaven and the earth and all that lies between them without purpose. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve. So woe to those who disbelieve because of the Fire!”
He Most High also said:
“Did you think that We created you in vain and that you would not be returned to Us?”
“Exalted is Allah, the True King! There is no deity worthy of worship except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.”
The Quran commentators explained that futility means performing an act with no wisdom behind it; it is a kind of play.
He also said:
“We did not create the heaven and the earth and all that lies between them in play.”
“Had We wished to take a pastime, We would have taken it from what is with Us—if We were to do so.”
And He said:
“Does man think that he will be left unattended?”
The Quran commentators and linguists explained that one left unattended is one who is neglected, neither commanded nor forbidden—as when someone leaves camels unattended and neglected.
He Most High also said:
“It is He who created the heavens and the earth in truth. On the Day He says, ‘Be,’ it will be.”
He Most High said:
“We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them except in truth. The Hour is surely coming, so pardon graciously.”
“Indeed, your Lord is the All-Knowing Creator.”
He, glorified be He, has made clear the distinction between what He commands and what He forbids, and between His allies whom He praises and honors and His enemies whom He censures and punishes. They are different, and it is not permissible to treat the two alike. He has declared the contrary to be reprehensible and wholly unjustifiable. He Most High said:
“Shall We then treat those who submit to Us like the criminals?”
“What is the matter with you? How do you judge?”
He also said:
“Shall We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like those who spread corruption on earth? Or shall We treat the righteous like the wicked?”
