Our duty is only to understand the monotheism we have been commanded to uphold and the path of Allah we have been commanded to follow. From both, we know that what al-Hallāj said was false and that someone like him must be executed.
As for the particular individual himself, did he inwardly have something—repentance or otherwise—on account of which Allah would forgive him? That is a matter for Allah, and no one needs to know the truth of it. And Allah knows best.
