worship Allah has made a grievous error. Everyone who worships Allah is among the blessed people of Paradise and among Allah’s righteous servants. The Most High said:
“Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, not to worship Satan—for he is surely your clear enemy—but to worship Me? This is a straight path.”
The two Sahīh collections report that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal when he sent him to Yemen:
“You are going to a people of the Scripture, so let the first thing you call them to be the testimony that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
In another version:
“Call them to worship Allah. When they come to know Allah, inform them…”
Thus, after He sent Muhammad and his message became known and was conveyed, none but Allah is to be worshipped. Hence, the scholars unanimously agree that their deeds are nullified. Had they worshipped Allah, their deeds would not have been nullified, for Allah wrongs no one.
Before Muhammad was sent, only those who worshipped Allah as He had commanded were worshipping Him. As for someone who abandons worshipping Him as He has commanded and follows his own desires, he does not worship Allah; rather, he worships Satan and false gods.
Allah has stated that the Jews worshipped false gods, that He cursed them and became angry with them, and that He made some of them apes, swine, and worshippers of false gods. The term “false god” is a generic designation encompassing Satan, idols, and soothsayers
