no one has ever committed to such an extent as al-Tilmisānī and another man called al-Balyānī, one of the shaykhs of Shiraz.
Among his verses are:
In everything there is a sign of Him,
showing that He is that very thing.
And also:
You are not other than the universe; rather, you are its very self.
This secret is understood by one who has tasted it.
And also:
My hand delights if it passes over my body,
for in truth I am none other than you.
And also:
Why do your white camels never come to rest?
How long will your shadow keep moving on?
You will surely learn, when you reach your destination,
that your journey was only ever toward yourself.
And also:
All is but one single order,
with neither praise nor blame within it.
Only custom, nature, and the Lawgiver
have made distinctions in judgment.
And also:
O you who reproach me, you forbid me and command me,
but ecstasy is truer in its prohibitions and commands.
If I obey you and disobey ecstasy, I would turn back, blind,
from direct vision to the illusions of hearsay.
