clear proofs had come to them, out of mutual animosity. Then Allah, by His permission, guided those who believed to the truth concerning which they differed.”
Likewise, Allah Most High says:
“He has ordained for you the religion He enjoined upon Noah, and which We have revealed to you, and which We enjoined upon Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: ‘Establish the religion and do not become divided in it.’ What you call them to is difficult for the polytheists to accept. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns to Him.”
Then He said:
“They did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them, out of mutual animosity. Had it not been for a prior decree from your Lord granting them respite until an appointed time, judgment would have been passed between them. Indeed, those who inherited the Scripture after them are in troubling doubt about it.”
And His saying:
“We certainly gave Moses the Scripture, but differences arose concerning it. Had it not been for a prior decree from your Lord, judgment would have been passed between them. Indeed, they are in troubling doubt about it,”
in Surah Hūd and Surah ‘Ayn Sīn Qāf.
Then He mentioned what all were commanded to do, saying:
“They were commanded only to worship Allah, devoting their religion sincerely to Him and inclining to the truth, to establish prayer and give zakah. That is the upright religion.”
Then He mentioned the final outcome of those who disbelieved among the People of the Book and the polytheists, and the final outcome of those who believed and did righteous deeds.
