and that the real implication of the position of the Jahmiyyah and those who agree with them in denying that He loves is that He does not deserve to be worshipped, just as their claim that He acts without wisdom or mercy implies that He is not to be praised. They describe Him only as possessing power and irresistible might. This entails reverence alone, not honor, love, or praise. Yet He, glory be to Him, is the Most Generous. Allah Most High says:

“Indeed, your Lord’s punishment is severe. Indeed, it is He who originates creation and brings it back.”

Then He says:

“And He is the All-Forgiving, the All-Loving, Owner of the Throne, the Glorious, Doer of whatever He wills.”

And Shuayb said:

“Seek your Lord’s forgiveness, then turn to Him in repentance. Indeed, my Lord is Merciful, Loving.”

In the first revelation, He described Himself as the One who created and as the Most Generous. The Jahmiyyah affirm nothing beyond His being the Creator, despite their shortcomings even in affirming this. They do not describe Him as possessing generosity, mercy, or wisdom. Even when they use these terms, they do not intend their meanings. Rather, they use them because they occur in the Quran, then deviate concerning His names and distort words from their proper places.
