Majmu' al-FatawaIbn Taimiya

This same fault for which Allah reproached those Arabs who regarded the angels as His daughters, despite their aversion to having daughters themselves, has its counterpart among the Christians. They attribute a child to Allah, yet consider the leading figures of their religion too exalted to have a wife or child. Thus, they attribute to Allah what they deem unworthy of their own religious leaders.

He, Most High, says:

“They say, ‘The Most Merciful has taken a child.’”

“You have indeed made a monstrous claim.”

“The heavens almost rupture at it, the earth splits apart, and the mountains collapse in devastation,”

“because they attribute a child to the Most Merciful.”

“It is not fitting for the Most Merciful to take a child.”

“There is no one in the heavens and the earth who will not come to the Most Merciful as a servant.”

“He has counted them and numbered them precisely.”

“And each of them will come to Him alone on the Day of Resurrection.”

He, Most High, says:

“O People of the Scripture, do not go to extremes in your religion, and say nothing about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, His word which He conveyed to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say, ‘Three.’ Desist—it is better for you. Allah is only one God. Glory be to Him! He is far above having a child. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as a Guardian.”

“The Messiah would never disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels brought near to Him. Whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant—He will gather them all to Himself.”

“As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, He will give them their rewards in full and grant them more out of His bounty. But as for those who disdain and are arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment, and they will find no protector or helper besides Allah.”

Thus, He forbade the People of the Scripture to go to extremes in religion or to say anything about Allah except the truth,
