in its complete form, through which one is truly guided, as in His words:
“A guidance for the God-fearing.”
And His words:
“Some He has guided, while others have deserved to go astray.”
And His words:
“Indeed, Allah does not guide those He leaves astray.”
And His words:
“Through it Allah guides those who seek His pleasure to the ways of peace.”
This occurs frequently in the Quran.
The same applies to warning. He says:
“We have made it easy in your tongue only so that you may give glad tidings thereby to the God-fearing and warn thereby a fiercely contentious people.”
And He, Most High, says:
“Is it astonishing to people that We have revealed to a man from among them: ‘Warn mankind and give glad tidings to those who believe’?”
Regarding warning in its particular sense, He says:
“You are only a warner to those who fear it.”
“You can only warn those who follow the Reminder and fear the Most Merciful without seeing Him.”
This is the particular warning: the complete, beneficial warning from which the one warned has benefited. Warning means informing someone of what is to be feared. Thus, he learns what is to be feared, becomes afraid, believes, and obeys.
Likewise, reminding has both a general and a particular sense. In its general sense, it means conveying the message to everyone. This is accomplished by communicating to them the message with which the Messenger was sent.
He, Most High, says:
“Say: ‘I ask you for no reward for this, nor am I one of the pretentious. It is only a reminder to all peoples.’”
And He, Most High, says:
“It is only a reminder to mankind.”
And He, Most High, says:
“It is only a reminder to all peoples.”
Then He says:
“For whoever among you wishes to follow the straight path.”
Thus, He mentions both the general and the particular.
