As for any ignorant person who claims that “Nasūh” was the name of a man who lived in the time of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and that people were commanded to repent as he did, such a person is a fabricator and a liar, ignorant of hadith and Quranic commentary, ignorant of the Arabic language and the meanings of the Quran.

For this is a man whom Allah Most High never created. No one among the people of earlier times was named Nasūh, nor has any scholar related this story. Had it been as this ignorant person claims, the wording would have been, “Repent to Allah with the repentance of Nasūh.” Instead, He said:

“with sincere repentance.”

A nasūh is someone who repents.

Whoever claims that this verse refers to a man or woman named Nasūh—even someone who lived in the time of Jesus or anyone else—is a liar who must repent of this claim. If he does not repent, he must be punished, according to the consensus of the Muslims. And Allah knows best.
