“Alif Lām Rā. A Book whose verses have been perfected, then set out in detail, from One who is All-Wise, All-Aware.”
Up to His words:
“And grant everyone of merit their due reward.”
Allah Most High says:
“Seek your Lord’s forgiveness, for He is ever All-Forgiving.”
Up to His words:
“And provide you with gardens and provide you with rivers.”
Allah Most High says:
“Had they remained steadfast on the right path, We would have given them abundant water, to test them thereby.”
Allah Most High says:
“Had the people of the towns believed and feared Allah, We would have opened for them blessings from heaven and earth. But they denied the truth, so We seized them for what they used to earn.”
Allah Most High says:
“Had they upheld the Torah, the Gospel, and what was sent down to them from their Lord, they would have received sustenance from above them and from beneath their feet.”
Allah Most High says:
“Whatever calamity befalls you is because of what your own hands have earned, yet He pardons much.”
Allah Most High says:
“If We let man taste mercy from Us, then withdraw it from him, he becomes utterly despairing and ungrateful.”
Allah Most High says:
“Whatever good befalls you is from Allah, and whatever evil befalls you is from yourself.”
Allah Most High says:
“So We afflicted them with poverty and hardship, that they might humble themselves in supplication. Why, then, did they not humble themselves when Our punishment came upon them? Instead, their hearts hardened, and Satan made their deeds seem fair to them.”
Allah Most High has stated in His Book that He tests His servants with good and evil: the good consists of blessings, and the evil consists of calamities, so that the servant may be steadfast in patience and abundant in gratitude.
It is authentically reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“By Him in whose hand is my soul, Allah decrees nothing for the believer except that it is good for him. This is true of no one but the believer: if prosperity comes his way, he is grateful, and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he is patient, and that is good for him.”
